System Requirements

To run TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.3 you need:

• IBM® Telelogic® DOORS® client 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 9.0 or 9.1, or Rational® DOORS® client 9.2 or 9.3, installed on a supported Microsoft Windows platform.
• MSXML 3.0 installed on the Microsoft Windows platform. This is installed by default as part of the standard Windows distribution. If required, it can be downloaded here.
• Access to a compatible DOORS Database Server.

The minimum system requirements for TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.3 are the same as the recommended requirements for the version of the DOORS client that you have installed. These requirements can be downloaded from the IBM Rational software support site.

Other requirements are as follows:

• To run the TraceLine Browser, your monitor resolution must be at least 1024 x 768 pixels (XGA). We recommend at least 1280 x 1024 pixels (SXGA).
• If your display card supports only 256 colors, you may experience unusual color effects. Although this will not affect underlying data, we recommend you use a display that supports more than 256 colors.
• To work with exported graphics reports, you must have Mindjet MindManager 6 or later, or Microsoft Visio 2003 or later.

Installing TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.3

Choosing the right installer

There are two installers for TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.3. One is to install TraceLine to work with DOORS 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3 clients; the other is for all earlier supported versions of the DOORS client.

There is no functional difference in the TraceLine software application that is installed by these two installers. The different installers are needed because the DXL encryption which is used in DOORS 9.1 and later is different to that used in earlier versions of DOORS.

Make sure that you choose the right installer for your DOORS client version:

• Use the installer named TraceLine_2_1_3_TL.msi for DOORS client versions 8.1, 8.2, 8.3 and 9.0;
• Use the installer named TraceLine_2_1_3_IBM.msi for DOORS client versions 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3.

Note: If you do not install the version of TraceLine that matches your DOORS client version, you will receive a DXL error whenever you pick an item from the TraceLine menu.

Choosing the installation folder

You must not install TraceLine for DOORS in the C:\Program Files folder. If you do, TraceLine will fail to run.

The TraceLine installation includes a license file. Whenever any change is made to license settings, TraceLine updates the license file to record this change. This means that TraceLine must have write access to the license file. You should therefore install TraceLine in a folder to which (at a minimum) TraceLine administrators have write access.

If you are upgrading from an earlier version of TraceLine for DOORS 2.1, follow the upgrade instructions in the next section.

Upgrading from TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.x

If you are upgrading from TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.0, 2.1.1 or 2.1.2, you should follow the instructions below to protect your existing license file. This file contains your license key and user allocations.

• Locate the file KTNav_2_1.keypaq in the addins subfolder of the TraceLine installation folder
• Copy this file to another location
• Install TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.3, following the relevant instructions in the Installing TraceLine manual (note - you do not need to uninstall TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.x before you do this)
• Copy the saved KTNav_2_1.keypaq file into the addins subfolder of the new TraceLine installation folder, overwriting the file of the same name that is there

Note: If you do not follow these instructions, your existing license key and user allocations will be lost. In this instance, contact us for a replacement license key.

Upgrading from Telelogic DOORS/TraceLine 2.0

TraceLine for DOORS was previously available exclusively from Telelogic, known as Telelogic DOORS/TraceLine.

If you have previously installed DOORS/TraceLine 2.0, you should uninstall it before you install TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.3. To do so, use the Add or Remove Programs dialog under the Windows Control Panel (or the Programs and Features dialog if you are using Windows Vista).

Note that if you had deployed any bespoke plugins for DOORS/TraceLine 2.0, these will not be removed when the DOORS/TraceLine software is uninstalled. See the Managing TraceLine manual for more details on how to upgrade these plugins to work with TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.3. TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.3 and Licensing

You can freely download and install TraceLine for DOORS on your computer for evaluation purposes. This allows you to try TraceLine without any cost or obligation before you purchase it for a period of 30 days after the installation. After the evaluation period ends, you will no longer be able to run TraceLine until you purchase and install a TraceLine license.

What's New in TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.3

Quick Browse

With quick browse, you can browse through your views more easily and rapidly. Open the Find dialog on the Browse tab (or type CTRL+B), and then check 'Quick browse' at the bottom right. You can now browse through the structure of your view in the view tree and, each time you click an item, the TraceLine browser is refocused onto this item.

Problems Fixed by TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.3

TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.3 adds support for DOORS 9.3. It also fixes the following defect:

• Display of read-only attributes - previously, in complex access control scenarios using propagated access, attributes for which the current user did not have modify rights would not always be shown in the TraceLine editor as read-only

Problems Fixed by TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.2

TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.2 is a maintenance release that adds support for DOORS 9.2. It does not include any defect fixes.

Problems Fixed by TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.1

TraceLine for DOORS 2.1.1 fixes the following defects:

• Access to baselines under DOORS 9.1 - previously, TraceLine did not access some baselines properly when running under DOORS 9.1
• Finding objects by DOORS object number string under DOORS 9.1 - previously, TraceLine did not find objects when searching by object number string (e.g. 2.1.0-1) under DOORS 9.1
• Exporting views from the View Editor - exporting views from the context (right click) menu in the TraceLine views explorer now works correctly; previously, choosing 'Export...' from the context menu opened the Import View dialog
• Validating filters with illegal enumeration values - previously, when validating views in the View Editor, TraceLine did not correctly identify filter strings that included an invalid enumeration value within a valid enumeration attribute
